During his years of earthly ministry, Jesus had many amazing mission moments - his time here was an unparalleled mission of grace, love and sacrifice in which he touched thousands of lives personally. After his resurrection, his disciples, all ordinary men, followed his example of loving service and sacrifice, spreading the Gospel far and wide. Over the centuries, there have been so many great examples of ordinary people who have allowed God to use them to accomplish extraordinary acts of Christian service, spreading the Gospel around the world as they lovingly ministered to the needs of the people they encountered as guided by the Holy Spirit.
To love Christ is to serve others as God provides the opportunity. There are many opportunities to serve people of all ages in our community. The last Sunday in March, most of our church family participated in one or more of a variety of mission opportunities in our community, which resulted in touching the lives of hundreds of people directly and many more indirectly. Think about how much was accomplished during a brief period of time (a mission moment), blessing those of us who served as well as those who were served.
This is a wonderful start to what could become an ongoing series of mission moments by the congregation of First Baptist Church, Decatur, Illinois. The opportunities are always with us. We have already seen what can be accomplished in a mission moment when we willingly join forces with God and each other in acts of service to our community. Let’s all listen to God’s leading and follow this mission moment with many others as a church family, making it a habit.
