Ministry

Its really simple. We love Jesus by loving people.  We serve Jesus by serving each other.  If we say we want to take the message of Jesus seriously, but don't minister to those around us, we are kidding ourselves.

  • Faith In Action Sunday - After an abbreviated worship experience on Sunday morning, teams from the church spread out in the community to do service projects and minister to people in need.

  • Serving Others - One of the real strengths of FBC is the willingness of our people to serve one another and reach out beyond our congregation.  If a need arises and people become aware of it, no program is needed to mobilize help and encouragement.

  • One Church/ One School - Decatur First Baptist Church has adopted Pershing Early Learning Center  as our school.  People read to students, help in classrooms, serve as surrogate parents and grand-parents, provide refreshments and supplies, and even bring some Christmas "ho-ho-ho" cheer to the school.

  • God's 4 Somes - Our men's ministry is heavy on service.  They eat together and study together, but the emphasis is ministry.  Using the New Commandment Men's Ministry model, the men of the church are committed to caring for those with needs.

  • ABW - American Baptist Women focus on mission and ministry as they gather for Circle meetings and hold special ministry events.

  • MusiCamp - Our unique summer program run by our Minister of Music and other committed volunteers brings kids out of the woodwork to have a special experience with music and the arts in a spiritual setting.

  • Concert Series - During the Advent and Lenten seasons, FBC hosts a noon time concert and lunch series.  Musicians share half hours concerts and a wonderful lunch is served.  The series is growing by leaps and bounds.

  • Missions - Hands-on help to communities after floods and tornados, involvement in downtown ministries, mission trips, humanitarian offerings, financial offerings for missionaries and mission efforts are a part of our mission involvement.

  • Bridge Events - FBC hosts events that are meant to introduce the church to its neighborhood and broader community.  These include events like "Easter Egg Hunts," "Trunk-or-Treat," and the concert series.
